With the current turbulence in the solar market causing price increases in companies outside the United States, the interest in American made solar panels is higher than ever. While the courts hear out both side of the arguments for and against requiring an import tax on imported solar panels the cost of these panels will remain high. Hopefully the court decides against the import tax and the market will return to being low cost and high yield.
Until then, American made solar manufacturers are hard to
come by. Although SolarWorld is well known to have some of the highest
efficiency panels on the market, the demand is high and therefore they are
relatively hard to come by. Luckily, Solaria has been working on its solar
technology since the early 2000’s, and their panels are low cost and highly efficient.
The Solaria PowerXT series includes high performance, high
density solar modules that are designed to produce up to 20% more power than
conventional panels on the market. Their technology starts with packing the
solar cells more efficiently to reduce inactive space between cells. The
modules are also electrically designed to reduce any power loss from shading
across the module by utilizing parallel connections between substrings within
each quadrant of the module. The efficiency of the panels is proven in their
19.3% efficiency rating, matching them to other high yield panels such as
Panasonic. The technology not only increases the efficiency of the modules but
adds a clean appearance to completed systems both small and large.
The Solaria modules follow the current market trend and come in high wattages, currently their modules range from 325 watts to 330 watts. The design follows a popular trend in solar panels with a black frame and black back-sheet, giving your system a finished look. Conventional modules typically experience inactive area losses that can be caused by shading, or less than optimum conditions. The PowerXT fixes this problem by producing panels with no bus bars and using parallel substrings instead of series sub-strings.
The bar for solar panel efficiency has continued to be set higher with each new product line from all manufactures, Solaria is certainly keeping ahead of the curve. For installations in low light environments, or less than ideal installation sites the PowerXT series is worth considering. The high efficiency rating will generate more power and energy savings than many conventional panels on the market today. The modules are also compatible with all racking manufacturers such as IronRidge, and SnapNrack.
